RESTORE, stickers, and Fine Motor Control go Hand-in-Hand
Jakylah Joyner, a COTA and one of our Clinical Success Directors, shows us how to work on fine motor control while playing RESTORE's Falling Fruit.
Tip 1: Use a latex glove and a sticker as your creative controller when playing the game.
Tip 2: Adjust the setting according to the needs of your resident.
Reach and grab the fruit out of the air and place it in the basket to work on those Fine Motor Skills.
Wash your ADL cares away using RESTORE and a loofah?
Suzi Fullam, a COTA and one of our Sr. Directors of Clinical Success shares how you can use stickers for washing and for ADLs with self-care.
Tip 1: Use a washcloth or a loofah as your creative RESTORE controller to simulate how your resident would wash themselves.
Tip 2: In addition to working on ADLs, you can also work on grip strength.
Use a washcloth, loofah or any other real life object to play RESTORE games that simulate any movement your resident might make related to self-care.
Helping residents climb to greater Activity Tolerance
Evince Edouard is one of RESTORE’s Clinical Success Directors and a proud COTA. Evince shows us how you can build Activity Tolerance while playing RESTORE games.
Tip 1: Upgrading or downgrading the activity is a great way to monitor Activity Tolerance.

Did someone Order Up a way to work on Attention to Task?
LJ Scheidecker, who was a RESTORE MVP before joining the team as one of our Clinical Success Directors, shares how he used RESTORE to work on Attention to Task, when he worked in the field.
Tip 1: Use Mouse Mode with your residents and walk them through the process.
Tip 2: Use the Help button on the side to show the list of items again
Order Up is a great way to work on Attention to Task because your residents will need to remember what items are on their list and pay attention to the items that are falling, to make sure they match the list.

🚨 Hey, RESTORE fans. We're thrilled to announce the launch of our latest game: Air Hockey! 🚨
Air Hockey is more than just a fun and challenging game. It offers fantastic benefits for individuals working on sit-to-stand or functional reach skills. To succeed, players must maintain a stable and balanced stance while stretching to hit the puck. This movement pattern will help to improve coordination, balance, and overall mobility, making it an excellent addition to any therapy routine.
In addition to the physical benefits, Air Hockey is also an excellent tool for combating social isolation. Individuals can play against each other, encouraging social interaction and communication. It's truly a great way to connect with others and foster a sense of community. This virtual spin on a classic game is the perfect activity for 1:1 therapy sessions, group activities, or as a fun game to play with family during visitation.
The fast-paced gameplay will keep your residents motivated. With its realistic physics and adjustable difficulty levels, the game can be tailored to each player's skill level. Such customization provides a rewarding experience for all participants. Whether you want to improve hand-eye coordination or find a fun way to socialize, Air Hockey is an excellent choice. Get Lucky with Our St. Patrick’s Games! ☘️
Posted on by Amanda Capone
We know how valuable seasonal content is for cognition, reality orientation, reminiscing, and FUN! So this week our users & players are having a shamrockin' good time with our St. Patrick's themed games.
Jack-Pot-of-Gold
Players will pull the slots to collect three (3) matching lucky items to win the round! Attach a sticker to your player’s chest to target weight-shifting, balance, and squatting. When asked why the slot-machine is their favorite game a player said, "I have to really concentrate on it. It makes me change hands too. It's a great, fun game. I love it!"
Leprechaun’s Loot
Help your patients embrace their mischievous side playing as a leprechaun in our newest activity. Like virtual air-hockey, players move up & down in order to protect their side and score against their opponent. Watch out, the longer the game is played, the quicker the pot of gold moves between players.
St. Patty's Plinko
Looking for a fun way to engage your residents during your St. Patrick’s festivities? Reach for a chip from the stack and place it in a slot atop the Plinko board as you try to end up in a high-scoring slot at the bottom of the board. Each chip has a score multiplier, the board is dynamic, and score slots increase in value every minute!
Be sure to log in to RESTORE-Skills to celebrate with these lucky games while you can. Your residents are sure to have a blast. Wishin' you a pot o' gold & all the joy your heart can hold!
Q&A: RESTORE-Together
Posted on by Ian Oppel
Question:
Tell me more about RESTORE-Together and it’s benefits? What is the difference between a live game and a private game?
Answer:
We are very excited to be able to introduce RESTORE-Together, which for the first time allows patients/players to play interactively with their loved ones, other patients/residents in their center, and/or with other players across the country - all from the safety of their rooms or in a socially distanced setting. Our primary motivation was to advocate for older adults, vulnerable to the risks of social isolation, by providing access to a virtual community of skill-builders.
Benefits:
- Helps mitigate the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial risks of isolation by connecting patients/residents with others they know and love
- Fosters a sense of community to have patients, therapists, and care partners interacting in a similar skill-building fashion with their peers nationwide
- Increases fun, engagement, and motivation to accelerate outcomes and provide a better patient experience
Live games:
- The ability to join a desired game with others is always open and does not require a code
- A player joins, enters a player name/identifier, indicates readiness, and waits a short time (often less than 1 minute) to see other players that join the competition
- Players will always know the score in head-to-head games or where they rank in tournament-style games
Private games:
- Allow a user to send a code to designated participants who can join the action by visiting the website restoreskills.com/together, entering the code, and following the instructions
- Adds motivation for the player as he/she will be interacting with family members, friends, or peers that they have expressed an interest in joining a fun and competitive RESTORE skill-building session
- If an audio exchange is desired during the session, we recommend having a phone or video conference call
- Note - we are working on a simple, emoji-based way to communicate within the game play if audio is not available or desired
- Note - some video conferencing apps will need to have the camera turned off so that RESTORE has primary access to the camera
- Players will always know the score in head-to-head games or where they rank in tournament-style games
Instructions for a player joining upon receiving a private game invite:
- Open Google Chrome and go to: restoreskills.com/together
- Secure the four (4) character code from the invitee and enter it in the text box
- Click “Join” to enter the private game
- If prompted, select “allow” to enable camera access
- Have a red, green, or blue rounded object available for play (i.e., ball, apple, container lid, cup, etc.)
- When prompted, use your mouse to select the color of your rounded object
- To calibrate, bring your controller to the center of the square, making sure the camera can clearly see the color of the object
- Enter your name or identifier in the text box and click ‘save’
- Click the ‘Ready’ button. When all players are ready, the game will start after a 20 second countdown
When players (patients) are having fun and engaged they focus less on targeted skills and more on the game. Fostering a sense of community by connecting with others will help mitigate the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial risks of isolation.
