Tis’ the Season for Gamified FUN!

Are you looking for a fun way to warm up the residents at your next holiday event? Look no further! To celebrate the most wonderful time of the year, we’re launching holiday renditions of your favorite games. Time to serve up some cocoa, put on some music and spread cheer with a RESTORE Holiday party. Below, you’ll learn all about the three (3) seasonal games launched this week, along with tips for best use. Be sure to log in and play before the holiday magic is gone!

Elf on the Slope

Elves are so busy running around for Santa in the days leading up to Christmas. In this game, patients navigate through candy cane arches and collect presents for Christmas. See who can receive the most gifts with the Elf on the Slope today! This is an excellent game for players working on lateral mobility as they’ll practice weight shifting, balancing, and squatting. When asked what her favorite game is one patient said, “I loved the skiing game! I didn’t think I was going to be able to do it. I was surprised when I was good at it. I’m going to tell my sister I skied in therapy today!”

Holly Jolly Slots

Embrace the excitement of the holidays with Holly Jolly Slots. Players will pull the slots to collect three  (3) matching Hanukkah or Christmas items to win the round! A perfect activity for patients working on activity tolerance or UE range of motion and players love engaging with the virtual slot machine!  When asked why it was their favorite, one player said, “I have to concentrate on it. It makes me change hands too. It’s a great fun game. I love it!” Reminder: If a player pulls a rare “Triple WILD” jackpot, let us know, and we’ll send them a special gift!

Tis the Season for Gamified Fun

Santa’s Sleigh

Santa needs to deliver his gifts on time! Your player will guide Old St. Nick’s sleigh through the night sky by moving their controller either up & down or left & right. Either gifts or coal will drop into the chimneys as you fly by, but be careful not to crash! If you observe a player struggling, use tactile cues to help them complete the desired movements correctly. A great game for testing reaction time, activity tolerance, and functional reach. Players can have fun tallying how many children were “Naughty” or “Nice” based on their delivery!

These games are so great; you’ll want to grab an ornament or pull on some mittens and play right away! Set up two or more stations where residents can play individually, as a team, or compete in a group simultaneously. They’ll love the nostalgia of the games and have a great time sharing their favorite holiday memories and traditions.

“Take Flight” with Our New Reaction-Testing Game

Our newest RESTORE activity takes players out of the therapy gym and into the blue skies above…at least virtually! You will facilitate greater engagement while supporting residents as they practice to improve their reaction time

To play Take Flight, patients navigate their plane side to side or up and down through the obstacles on the screen! The speed continues to increase until the player either (1) crashes their plane 🔥 or (2) manually ends the game. Keep track to see who can get the highest score!

Why Play?

Each of our games is designed to increase skill practice while improving function and Take Flight is no exception! Add this game to a player’s session to:

  • Improve reaction & response time
  • Increase stability & standing tolerance
  • Target visual perceptual & scanning skills
  • Maintain required proper postural alignment to increase endurance & independence with tasks by strengthening the upper extremities.

This game is ideal for concurrent or group therapy settings! Want to see who can clear the most obstacles? Improve patient socialization skills with a little friendly competition by encouraging 2 or more residents to play at the same time. Motivate skill practice and track user’s daily progress by adding Take Flight to your next session.

Data-driven activities & daily progress tracking

How Do You Measure Daily Progress?

Hi, I am excited to share that RESTORE's Daily Progress dashboard is now live.

We understand how important it is for you to track your patients’ progress. You want to know if today was better than yesterday and plan for tomorrow's activity accordingly. For example, you want to see if your patient can reach higher, react faster, and respond with greater accuracy. Now, with RESTORE’s *NEW* Daily Progress dashboard, you can monitor your patients' functional progress over time.

What Progress Can Be Measured?

*Results will appear in the Daily Progress dashboard found in the Player Profile*

Why come back daily?

Progress data is collected when patients play different skill-building activities on our platform. To see consistent data and track progress over time, make sure your patients are practicing every day.

PDPM - What can we do for you?

Under PDPM, presenting objective data when reporting patient progress will be more important than ever. We will continue to develop and provide our users with the best measurement and therapy tools possible. If you have an idea for an activity or measurement that can empower you and your patients, let us know. We are happy to develop and add therapist ideas for the benefit of all of our users!

We look forward to hearing from you and supporting your goals!

Sequencing Activities of Daily Living

The ability to perform Activities of Daily Living is dependent upon cognitive, motor, and perceptual skills. There is also the critical distinction of a patient's ability to complete a task (physical and cognitive ability) versus the ability to recognize the job that needs to be done without prompting (cognitive ability). Each ADL and IADL involves a series of steps that are performed together in a specific sequence, without first mastering the proper sequence, it’s hard to complete these tasks correctly. As such, to accelerate practice and help patients establish an understanding of ADLs, we've created the game Sequence It!

Why Play?

  • Target & evaluate motor planning skills
  • Maintain required proper postural alignment to increase endurance & strengthen upper extremities.
  • Improve working memory skills

GAME UPDATE!

We love receiving feedback from our users about the game, along with their ideas for which sequencing activities to include next.

Based on our suggestions, we've added a new task for your patients to practice. The latest Sequence It! the job, Making Dinner - Soup, asks players to select the correct sequence of events using the six cards on the screen.  As you can see, the player will correctly order the six (6) actions listed in the cards: (1) open can; (2) put the soup in pan; (3) warm on the stove; (4) serve; (5) eat with a spoon; (6) clean up!

We all know the saying, “don’t put your shoes on before your socks”...

Well, how about the correct sequence for grocery shopping, brushing your teeth, or making a doctor’s appointment? A highly useful strategy to guide patients in the sequential performance of ADLs and IADLs includes breaking down the task into smaller steps.  Sequence It! is designed to help your patients (and you) work through everyday daily tasks while further developing motor skills, planning, comprehension, reasoning.

Sequence It! features three different tasks to choose from grocery shopping, making a doctor’s appointment, and brushing your teeth, allowing players can practice these skills and monitor their daily progress in a fun and engaging environment.  Players need to select the correct sequence of events using the 4-5 images and words on the screen.

Adding this game to your players' sessions will promote the understanding of sequencing activities and encourage confidence when practicing ADLs. So, put away your box of flash cards, grab a red, green, or blue object & add Sequence It! to your patient's next session.

Mo Money, Less Problems

Who doesn’t like money?! Our guess is no one! And while money doesn’t grow on trees, you’ll find no shortage of the green stuff in our newest game Money Mania!  Our newest game requires players to complete a variety of rehab-driven tasks involving money ranging from the basic matching of bills to the collecting bills in order to reach a specified amount. Each activity has 4 levels that increase with difficulty as they are played through. To select a bill, players use the hand to hover over the bill of their choice.

  • Matching: Collect all of the bills that match the requested one in the instructions
  • Sequencing: Collect the bills and arrange them in ascending value. Check your answer or use "reset" to start over
  • Totaling: Collect the bill/s that total closest to the dollar up cost of the given amount

Like most of our games, Money Mania! allows players to practice both cognitive and motor skills. As they work through the various tasks involving money - encourage your patients to play with one or two hands together while sitting to expand the range of motion, strengthen their upper extremities, or cross the mid-line. Players can also practice standing, with or without support, to target balance and endurance.

How will you incorporate Money Mania! into your player's next therapy session? Let us know in the comments!

RESTORE: A PDPM Therapy Opportunity Creator

'What will happen to therapy?" This is the question many are asking as they look toward the changes to come with PDPM. In his talk at the eCap Summit,  Marc Zimmet presented RESTORE as a PDPM therapy opportunity creator. CEO & President of Zimmet Healthcare Services Group, Marc boasts over 25 years experience in the skilled nursing industry and advises industry leaders as they face comprehensive payment and market reform.

As practitioners across the country prepare for the shift to PDPM, many wonder if SNFs will see a mass reduction in therapy provision. But as Jonalyn Brown, VP of Operations at Consonus Healthcare, points out, there are steps we can take to ensure this fear does not come to pass. "While there will be a shift in services, particularly since therapy teams won’t be pressured to make up minutes if a patient has to miss an appointment, the amount will not decline in the move from RUG to PDPM — but only if therapy has been historically provided based on patient needs."

Delivering patient-centered care is at the heart of the new payment model and this paradigm shift offers a chance for therapy teams to expand tool kits. In the PDPM world, rehabilitation providers and SNFs must create additional therapy opportunities for the patient. If teams utilize online tools and other therapy technology, they can safeguard SNFs from the feared mass reduction in therapy.

How have you started to prepare for the changes brought on by PDPM? Are you concerned and left asking "what happens to therapy?" Let us know in the comments!

GOOOOAAAAL!

You already know that soccer’s the number one sport around the world, but did you it’s also the inspiration behind our newest game? In Bounce It, players practice their dribbling skills by bouncing a virtual ball with their knees or feet!

To play, align your head and shoulders with the silhouette on the game screen. Calibrate the red, green, or blue object attached to your lower extremities and then calibrate the desired height for each leg by following the on-screen prompts. Once calibrated, lift the leg that matches the color of the dropping ball to the calibrated white line and pop the ball in the air.

Bounce It is great for targeted practice of balance, hip and knee range of motion, transitional/up and down movements, and endurance.

  • Can be played with 1 or 2 controllers.
  • Play standing or sitting, with or without support.
  • See the settings below for the option to play based on time or level, whether you want to alternate legs lifting or a random order, and the size of the ball.

Gone Fishin’

Grab your fishing pole and dive into RESTORE with our recently added game, Fish Spell! This activity gives players the oppor-tuna-ty to target both cognitive and motor skills as they simply “catch” fish in order to correctly spell a given word or complete a pattern.

Using a red, green, or blue object, hover the target over the fish displaying the correct letter until it fills up.  Be sure to catch all the fish in the correct order to complete open the treasure chest on the ocean floor. Adjust the settings to match shapes or colors instead.  Hold your hand over the snail to hear the word repeated. Play this activity in a variety of positions to strengthen the foundational skills necessary for self-care activities.

Fish Spell aims to further develop the following skills:

  • Cognitive Skills
    • Spelling
    • Planning
    • Matching Patterns
  • Mid-line Crossing
  • Bilateral Coordination
  • Range of Motion
