RESTORE in McKnight’s Long-Term Care News

We're honored & excited to be featured on McKnight's Long-Term Care News today. McKnight’s is a business news magazine serving the institutional long-term care field. They especially focus on news in the high-acuity skilled nursing setting. Below, is an excerpt from the article:

RESTORE Skills has launched an interactive software product for adult rehabilitation patients that uses any webcam-equipped, Wi-Fi-enabled device as a therapy tool in the gym, at the bedside or at home post-discharge.

Our technology — the first to offer this level of mobility — provides a scalable platform to help skilled nursing organizations and therapy practitioners deliver positive rehab,” said Eran Arden, RESTORE’s founder and CEO. “At a time when therapy protocols are shifting, RESTORE enables the creation of more practice opportunities, the collection of meaningful data, and the design of therapy protocols according to a patient’s progress”

Meet Your Group & Concurrent Therapy Goals

We want to help you reach your group and concurrent therapy goals in an exciting and engaging way. Add fun to your center, encourage residents to move more, and build community with our new group play feature. In this post, we'll discuss group play and learn how centers are incorporating games into their group practice. Then, we'll review tips to help you and your team get started!

The RESTORE Difference

The Group Play feature helps with the PDPM requirements for group and concurrent therapy. The portability of the platform eliminates environmental limitations to promote enjoyable and engaging group therapy opportunities. For instance, you can create practice opportunities by setting up several stations or engaging multiple players on different devices simultaneously.

Our users love to engage with the group play setting. In fact, at a team training in a Massachusetts center we saw the power of gamification during simultaneous group sessions. To start, the therapists split people into two groups and set up each station was to play Ski Saga. Then, players worked on weight shifting, trunk rotation, squatting, strengthening, and standing tolerance. It was great to see the variety of exercises and controllers used to enhance the session! The whole room was full of excitement as players took turns "skiing" to reach their therapy goals.

Together is Fun

Our fun, innovative, and engaging therapeutic activities bring a vibrant boost to your therapy gym. Playing games in a group session can facilitate conversation among players as they discuss their hobbies, memories, or traditions. Players enjoy playing together as a team, in large groups by taking turns, or even tournament style to create some excitement and light-hearted competition.

Centers can also enjoy Group Play when playing as part of a community event in the activity department or elsewhere. For instance, the team can create a "pet therapy" day at the center and incorporate RESTORE animal-themed games as one station, along with stations for making dog biscuits, playing fetch with a therapy retriever, and setting up a pet show.

We hope these tips spark your imagination and encourage you to step out of the box for your next therapy session or group activity. Do you have any fun stories from a RESTORE group play session? Tell me about it by sending your account and a few of your favorite pictures to amanda@restoreskills.com.

PDPM - What can we do for you?

Under PDPM, presenting objective data when reporting patient progress will be more important than ever. We will continue to develop and provide our users with the best measurement and therapy tools possible. If you have an idea for an activity or measurement that can empower you and your patients, let us know. We are happy to develop and add therapist ideas for the benefit of all of our users!

We look forward to hearing from you and supporting your goals!

RESTORE: A PDPM Therapy Opportunity Creator

'What will happen to therapy?" This is the question many are asking as they look toward the changes to come with PDPM. In his talk at the eCap Summit,  Marc Zimmet presented RESTORE as a PDPM therapy opportunity creator. CEO & President of Zimmet Healthcare Services Group, Marc boasts over 25 years experience in the skilled nursing industry and advises industry leaders as they face comprehensive payment and market reform.

As practitioners across the country prepare for the shift to PDPM, many wonder if SNFs will see a mass reduction in therapy provision. But as Jonalyn Brown, VP of Operations at Consonus Healthcare, points out, there are steps we can take to ensure this fear does not come to pass. "While there will be a shift in services, particularly since therapy teams won’t be pressured to make up minutes if a patient has to miss an appointment, the amount will not decline in the move from RUG to PDPM — but only if therapy has been historically provided based on patient needs."

Delivering patient-centered care is at the heart of the new payment model and this paradigm shift offers a chance for therapy teams to expand tool kits. In the PDPM world, rehabilitation providers and SNFs must create additional therapy opportunities for the patient. If teams utilize online tools and other therapy technology, they can safeguard SNFs from the feared mass reduction in therapy.

How have you started to prepare for the changes brought on by PDPM? Are you concerned and left asking "what happens to therapy?" Let us know in the comments!

My “Why RESTORE.”

I believe that adding life to our days is as important as adding days to our life…and we do both!

It is astonishing that therapy is still delivered as it was 100 years ago, from therapist to patient in the traditional 1:1 session. This model has several key deficiencies that, in today’s healthcare economy, are no longer sustainable:

  • Therapy sessions are dependent on the presence of a paid therapist (not scalable)
  • Subjective/manual data collection and analysis by the therapist
  • Activities are standard and routine, rather than personalized and data-driven

Payers intend to cease to reimburse this approach; with PDPM we switched from volume to value. Providers will need achieve the same rehabilitation results while decreasing their OT/PT hours by 30%. Failure to do so means the same patient outcomes will result in a loss of compliance with the payers. This change necessitates a system such as RESTORE-Skills.

RESTORE-Skills brings rehabilitation into the 21st century by utilizing cutting-edge tools such as motion tracking, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to provide an end-to-end solution to reduce the need for the individual therapy session. RESTORE provides a scalable, data-driven SaaS platform that helps nursing homes and home care providers deliver the results expected of them, retain their compliance and preserve their revenue.

RESTORE goes beyond building a product or company, RESTORE is building a new category of on-demand, data-driven, rehabilitation tools for the healthcare demands of the 21st century.

I believe that therapy can be more effective, motivating, and fun – don’t you?
